Simon Hornblower is a Senior Research Fellow in Classical Studies at All Souls College, Oxford. Antony Spawforth is Professor of Ancient History at the University of Newcastle. Esther Eidinow is Reader in Ancient Greek History at Newman University College in Birmingham.

Oxford -- Still the Tops

For what seems like forever the Oxford Classical series of publications has been number one in the field. Because of its reputation, and because of other Oxford publications that I own, I purchased this book and was not disappointed. It is a bit pricey, but an excellent investment for those studying or working in the classical field.

A Living Classic

1) Arrived over a week ahead of forecast delivery, very well packed
2) Current revision contains all the "classic" (historical) entries with much better enhanced photos/diagrams AND significant updates based upon new and better understanding (particularly archeological matters)

All four editions of the OCD are in my library. I'm sentimental regarding the 2nd edition, of 1970, as it was new when I was beginning grad school. That said, the 4th is a worthy successor and augments well my old companion of the Ancient World.
